H1B Question

I apologize if this question has been raised before. I heard from a colleague that once your I140 has been approved you can extend your H1B visa in three year increments instead on one when you surpass the initial six year term. I have a job offer from another firm and waiting for my GC to arrive in the mail and wanted to know that based on an approved I140 from the sponsoring company will I be eligible for a three year H1B visa. Thanks.

Do you have a filled and pending 485 ?
If you have a pending 485 for more than 180 days and have an approved 140 then yes the extension of the H-1 will be for 3yrs
