This is my situation.....
I lost my job as product manager in July 2001 as my company was acquired....i the joined another startup which collapsed soon and my visa never got transferred.....Sept 2002 i got a contracting offer from a large company for a year and started working there through an intermediary company which applied for the transfer of my visa based on the year old pay stubs (its still in process) ...last month this company ( a large chip maker) laid off 4000 people and i lost my contract....2 weeks later i found 2 spectacular job offers......they made me an offer ond and mentioned that H1B transfer is not at all an issue.....but they called me back 2 days later and said they cant continue with the offer as i was technically out of payroll between July 2001 and mid 2002 (before i took the contract opportunity) and hence i am illegal and out of status even though my passport is stamped till end of 2003....They mentioned that if i leave the country i will be barred from entering for the next 10 years .....my H1b started on jan 98 and i still have a year remaining.....
is there any way out of this situation or is my life in this country done for good ? I would appreciate any help on this as i am in real dire straits...........
