H1B marrying an asylee (nice rhyme) :D

Hello and thank you in advance :)

I am an H1B holder, I am currently legally employed for approximately 8 months.

Hypothetically speaking if I am going to marry a person with asylum status, what will happen to my status?

Will I be able to apply for green card? Can I change my status according to his asylum?

Will it be easier just to apply for green card my self and wait? If yes, how long? I have job category C (teacher).

What are my options if I marry him after he gets green card? Will I get permanent resident status if not what will happen? How long to wait?

The reason why I am asking how long because I also want to complete my education in USA.

All answers are greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Welcome On Board!!!

Someone with the asylum status can't give you any benefit as immediate relative until becoming citizen. However, with your H1B, you should be able to wait without major difficulties for him to become citizen and believe it or not, you will get your GC faster especially If your marriage is at least two years old at the time he gets the citizenship.

Scan this portal and you will find valuable informations about your questions in past posts.

Good Luck.
