Jaxen : Would you please advise?
Hello,
I would appreciate of anyone could share your experiences and give me some tips!
I have been working on H1-B as a Design Engineer in NJ since March'2001. I was laid off on 8/1/02.
The company lawyer advised that according to the INS regulation, the Employer must inform the INS (thro' the Law firm) about termination of the employment.
How long can I stay in the country legally after my employer informs the INS? How long is the grace period? Can I apply for the change of status (H1B to H4) just before that deadline? My husband works for the same company on H1B.
I am expecting an interview call within next 2-3 weeks from another company in NJ. If this company is willing to sponsor my H1, will the change of status application become a hurdle?
I would appreciate your inputs!
Thanks!
