Hello,

I am on H1B visa. Unfortunately today, my employment was terminated. Therefore, as I understand, I am out-of-status from tomorrow(today?) (but *not* unlawfully present yet).

What are my options?
1) Can I find another job and port my H-1B? OR
2) Since I have do not have a job anymore the question of porting H1B to another job does not arise. (My H1B visa is valid until September.)
See number 25 in http://faq.visapro.com/H1B-Visa-FAQ12.asp

Can anybody help?

If 2) above is correct, that would mean that the only option(other than leaving for my home country) I have is to apply for B1/B2 visa(business/tourist) which allows me to be legally present in the US and look for a job if possible or at least give me some time to wrap up the loose ends here before I leave. This is also mentioned in the link
http://forums.immigration.com/blog.php?b=57

What happens if the B1/B2 is denied? Even in the case I have to return, I need time to sell my car, wrap up things in the US etc. Basically a few weeks....

Please share your thoughts...

Thanks!

Ask your employer if they will keep your position open officially even if you no longer work there. Most are willing to do this and then when you find a new position you wont be out of status for more than 10 days.
