H1B, Laid off with last date in 2 weeks, but severance paid over a year

My employer is paying the severance package over a year but my last date is next week. When I asked the immigration department at my employer, I am told so as as I maintain my US bank account, severance payments can be made. I was further told paying for services requires work authorization and since I will have no laptop, access to facilities/systems, there is clearly no services being rendered/work. Additionally, they said the pay statements will be clearly marked "severance" so it is clear I am not performing services and hence no unauthorized employment.

Is this okay? Has anyone else been in a similar situation?
