H1B for a charity?

Hello

I hope someone can help. My boyfriend has been helping out a charity in the US. He works in IT and has basically helped with the website etc remotely. He does this for free. The head of the charity has recently received quite a bit of funding for this website (it seems the website has taken off) and he wants to give some money to my boyfriend. We have been looking to move to the states for some time and we are wondering if this could work for him to get a visa to the states… Any ideas of what can be done. I have researched this for so long and personally I don’t think it will work (he has 10 years experience in IT, IT qualifications and a degree in the same subject area as the charity (not IT)) but I don’t know. Please any idea is welcome!

Thanks

What country is your boyfriend a citizen of? it has a bearing on how to answer your question. There might be a better solution than a H1.

One thing to keep in mind with an H1 is that there is a limited amount of visas and the waiting list is very long.

charity H1B not under quota

AFAIK

Note: This is my personal experience.

Charity H1B does not come under quota. so ur bf mite still be able to apply for H1B rite now.

But, a person will not get a H1B visa just b'coz a charity organization is giving a one time payment. the organization should be in a position to pay the minimum wage rate to ur boyfriend at least for the duration of the visa. of course, ur bf can transfer after coming to US but he will have to wait till oct 07 to come under the commercial quota.

Thanks

My boyfriend is a citizen of the UK.

Basically the charity intends to pay him a salary, plus he would get a % of all advertising revenue. The charity will pay him regardless of where he lives, so he does not really need to be in the states to work (after all, it is internet!)
but if he could work there, that would be fantastic!!

Thanks
