H1B Extn Stamping at Delhi, 221 G and asked for passport??

Hello,

I had appeared for H1 visa extn interview at Delhi on 3 Nov 2008. Was asked to wait for admin processing 221 G, but still havent received my Visa. However on 18 March 2009 I received an email from State Dept asking me to submit my passport for 'further processing'. I did that hoping my visa would be issued, but I am still waiting for almost 2 months now. Still no Visa! Thankfully my employer is also waiting for me....

Anyone else who had the same experience? Appreciate if someone could advise what might be happening here.

Unfortunately you seem to have a common name. You can get your passport back by calling or visiting them, but visa issuance will take its own time.
 
Ok thank you Kabkaba. Yes I guess it is a case of a common name, but I would not call it 'unfortunate' as by God's grace I have a very good name :)

However still wondering why they asked for my passport, is it to check which countries I have visited? Can't think of any other useful information that they could get out of it. Anyway I don't think anyone could have a precise answer to that on this forum.
