H1B extension and Green Card Process

Will application for a Green Card in anyway affect me if I go in for an extension of my H1B? I know that the Consulate Officers are skittish about people who want to permanently reside in states , especially when on H1 VISA.

I Know while applying for brand new H1B, this can be a problem (you should never give an impression that you're going to US to permanently reside)!! But is the same applicable for H1B extension? Can my extension be rejected if the consulate officer detects that I have a green card in process DURING my H1B extension interview?

Since H-1B allows dual intent, an extension is granted even when a permanent residency application is in process.
