H1B appt - Ottawa - Need help

Hi,

I have an appointment for H1B stamping in Ottawa consulate. I'll appreciate if anyone can clarify the following doubts:

1. My appointment document says that I need to present "Documents that demonstrate you have financial stability and permanent ties to a country outside United States". What kind of documents do I need to present? Is this statement printed on everyones appointment letter?

2. Is there any problem in getting visa stamped from Ottawa consulate?

3. I have a 8:30 AM appointment. When can I expect to get my passport back?

4. Initially I took the appt for Toronto consulate but later came to know that I am supposed to present a deposit recieipt of $100 from Scotia Bank at the time of my appointment. Since I was reaching the night before the appointment date, I could not have possibly gone to the bank in the morning to get this done. So, I rescheduled the appointment for Ottawa consulate as they accept this payment in cash. Can someone confirm that?

5. Will I be getting anything from the consulate in the mail?

Thanks,
Vibhor

Ottawa........

1. This was on my appointment letter (in June 06) and I had not bothered to pay attention so far! So, I had just taken every piece of paper I could possibly imagine. All letters that come from Soc Sec, all IT returns, all W2s, latest several months Bank statements, mutual funds...., all previous H1B approvals, educational certs, experience certs, employment letters, latest several months salary slips, I-140 approval courtesy copy from my employer, umpteen phone numbers to call should I get stuck...

It took me 24 hours yes, 2 days of non-stop 12 hours of work to gather all the papers I thought they can possibly ask. I had heard of non-sensical demands and had to witness it at another window!

There is a lady in the Embassy, she is very helpful/understanding. She is careful, methodical, does her interviewing job well without making you uncomfortable. There is one who can give you shivers. I am not sure how is the other last guy but it did not look like he was unnecessarily troublesome.

You will get the passport the next day 3.00 pm.

They accept cash US$.

You get nothing in mail from the Embassy.

Go with your filled forms, handwritten wont be accepted, so fill up the PDF, print and take it. I had some difficulty in printing, if I went to the second person's form and returned to print the first one. So, have some time for these much earlier!

As you return to US, you require most papers again at the POE. So have them in your hand baggage or readily accessible in your car!

Thanks, that was very helpful. One more question - when I took the appt through nvars.com, they gave me 3 options...download, mail and a third one. I selected the mail one...doesn't that mean that I would be getting something through mail or do I just need the letter from nvars.com?

Thanks,
Vibhor
