There were a lot of questions about taking step 3 for getting your H1B

as far as i know in most cases the hsopitals wont even apply for H1B if u dont have step 3 results.

In my case i did not take step 3 . convinced the hospital to apply for both h1 and j1 simultaneously..........

got h1B and got the visa...

Congrats.

Now you have to start thinking about getting your green-card. All too often, physicians are so tied up in their residency that they forget about this detail. Remember 2 things: A. Only very very few fellowships sponsor H1b visas. B. You have 5 years until you must have a GC petition or labor cert cooking.

So, while 5 years seems a long time right now, once you are at the 4 year mark and no job in sight to file for you, people tend to get panicky.

I don't know what residency you are doing, but give the GC issue some thought early on. (easiest solution: get married :-))

hi hadron and others thanks....

it is Internal medicine ......trying to get into GI

Hadron - correct me if im wrong - once u have H1 then i thought all u need is to get a fellowship and just extend ur h1 visa - probably with a letter from the same/new hosptial/program!!!

or is it that the fellowship hospital - should again sponsor you???

thanks in advance
