H1b and green card

Hello, my attorney told me that I can apply for both H1b and Green card at the same time, is this correct? she also said that if H1b got denied due to the quotas problem, then I can wait for the process of the green card. But I am confused how that's going ot happen because it takes 2-3 years or more than that to get the green card. Pleaes let me know what your thoughts are?
 
But given that H1B might be denied, the company will no longer be able to hire me. Does that mean I still can wait for the Green card to be approved? Then start working for my employer again?
 
First of all, reading your post it appears that your H-1B is not denied, it was blocked owing to quota. Yes GC takes a lot more longer than an H-1B but if the employer demonstrates that you will get hired by them throughout the process you should be okay.
