H1B amendment question

Hey all,

My company merged with another company (basically we took over them) and changed our business name. We decided to get my H1B visa amended to show the new company name so it does not affect me in the future.

My question is that my previous H1B visa approval notice said it was valid from 10/02/2006 to 10/01/2009 and this one has a new valid date from 5/14/2007 to 5/13/2010.

Does this mean the amendment actually renewed/extended my stay somehow? Should I be bothered since we know that H1B visa can be extended for a maximum of 6 yrs unless specific rules apply? Does that rule have any specifications for just one renewal over the period?

We went through the same type of restructuring. I was advised not to amend the H1B since the federal tax ID remained the same even if the name changed.

I cannot answer the date related question.
