H1 Visa status in administrative status

Hi,

I went for H1B Visa interview to chennai embassy last december 2005 and they said that they need the project description on the client's letter head.
So my consultant(Consultant based at California), talked to the client and got the project description.
Apart from that embassy has sent a separate mail to the client as well asking
for more details about the project and the client replied to the queries.

When the embassy sent a mail once again to the client after a month or so, the client was no longer in need of me. As they have got a new contractor by that time.
So they replied to the embassy saying that they are not in need of me.

So when I called the embassy, they say that my H1 Visa status is still under
administrative process. They will get back to me.

In Jan they have returned my passport with all the other documents except the INS receipt.
My passport doesn't have any rejections as well.

So how long can I wait if the status is in administrative process.

Shall I apply for a new H1B visa through another consultant.

Please let me know.
