Hi all,
thanks a lot who shared their visa stamping experiences. This infact helped me a lot in getting a closer view of the stamping process.
My appointment was on Dec 19th at Nogales, Mexico and I'm F1 - OPT - H1
I drived from Phoenix to Nogales (approx 3 hrs). Parked the car in McDonald's parking lot.
Crossed the border without Mexican permit / visa.
Took a cab to Banamex ($8) and went there. The bank opens at 9.00 AM, it will be good if you are there by 8.00AM because the line will be bigger if you go around 8:30. Paid $108 for the Banamex DD and went directly to the consulate. By the time I entered into the consulate, it was 9:40 AM and it was tooo crowded. I had to wait for 3 1/2 hrs for the interview.
The interview was cool and I think she was asking questions just for formality.
VO: Can I have your DS forms and passport:
Me: gave it. (She went through the DS forms thoroughly so as to check all the information)
VO: Can I have your resume.
Me: After searching for 1 1/2 min, I gave my resume. ( She did not even take a look of it and just kept with her).
VO: Which company do you work for ?
Me: abc
VO: what do yo do at work?
Me: abc
VO: who are your clients?
Me: abc
VO: So you have a Masters in computerscience
Me: yes Mam,
VO: where did you studied? and seems that you are a transfer student.
Me: abc and yes Mam
Vo: your visa is approved
Me: Thank you so much.
She did'nt even ask for the paystubs, transcripts and she kept all the DS forms, and resume with her.
There was another guy who was interviewed and he too got approved. This guy had a DUI misdemeanor.
We all went back at 3:00 to collect passports. Everybody got their passports back but myself and the other guy were asked to comeback tomorrow as they want to check something. (I dont know why did they asked me but I'm guessing I carried a duplicate copy of I 797 and the original was lost).
So called the airline guys, cancelled the ticket, booked a new one, extended the rental car, took the motel.
This motel is near border and its a good one in the sense you feel secured and it has internet access too. Motel name is Fray Marco's.
Next day we went to the consulate and I got the passport back. The other guy had to give all his 10 fingerprints again and was asked to comeback tomorrow.
I strongly suggest any one who'z planning going to Nogales to take MEXICAN PERMIT.
Consular's interviewed two other guys after me and asked them whether they have permit. They said no, Consulars gave a warning like thing but finally approved Visa.
Do carry a Mexican permit. I think, you can also get a permit inside Mexico but not sure.
Everyone who attended interviews on Dec 18th, 19th, 20th have got their Visas. I did not see a issue except one guy was asked to wait for 2 weeks. I don't know what exactly happenend.
