H1 Visa at Chennai Consulate

Hi all
I was in the US on an L-1 visa for three years. My L-1 got expired and I applied for an H-1 from within the US.

I got an I-797 saying that the petition has been approved but the document does not give work authorization so I have to go to Chennai Consulate to get my visa stamped before I start working.

I had an appointment for the Visa on September 19th. Chennai consulate refused to give me the VISA and asked for a list of documents that I need to submit through the TTS box. I am getting those documents prepared. In the meanwhile, could anyone give me any pointers on what I should be looking out for and if anyone has ahd such an experience before.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you were in US and got your 797 , you could have worked and were not required to get itstamped ....

My 797 did not have an I-94 attached and it said clearly that this is not a work authorization , just my petition has been approved.
