H1 transfer

Is it possible to get your H1 transferred to another company during the time when it is in the process of extension by previous company?
Also, what if the person has to leave the US while the extension is still pending?
Is there separate quota of H1s for different professions, e.g. IT, Healthcare, etc.?

Yes, you can file for another transfer of H1B even when your previous H1B extension with previous company is awaiting approval. Also you can leave the country whenever you want and can come back as long as you have valid H1B visa on your passport, but if it is expired and you still have to leave , you need to go to consulate office in abroad and have the stamp with approved I-129 petition from old or new employer

If for any reason your I-129 extension/transfer is denied, your have no chance to comeback at all unless you file a fresh/new H1B
