H1 to H4 - visa concern at consulate

Dear Friends,

I wanted to ask your opinion on getting H4 visa stamped at the consulate. Generally I think when one goes to get a H4 visa, they don't ask for the paystubs or W2's for the applicant, I think infact they ask for the paystubs and all the work related items for spouse (the one on H1). Now, do you think they would ask for old paystubs/w2 for the applicant who has changed status from H1 to H4? Did this happen to any one of you guys? Please share your thoughts.

There is no hard and fast rule like that. They can ask the person to prove status for all the years he/she has been in the USA. For example, if a person was on f1 then h1 and then shifts to h-4 and go for a visa interview, they can ask that person to show any document related to any of the stauses he/she had.
There is always a chance that they may not ask. Just because they can, does not mean that will. But they may.
My case is not exactly the same. But I was on F-1 and after I got my first h-1, I went to india for stamping. They asked me for my EAD (Students get a one year EAD for optional practical training).

So I would not count on anything. Best thing is to be prepared for the worst.
 
But DO NOT show any documeny unless asked. That will cause problems if you do not have proper documentation.
