H1 to H4, Travel Question

Hi,
My wife went on H1 from H4 recently. Now we are planning to travel to France (this is not our country of origin) in one month. She has the H4 visa stamped on her passport which is valid until next year, and she also has the H1 approval notice. Is it possible to travel without getting the H1 visa stamped on her passport?

If you use the H4 visa, you abandon the H1 status. In order to keep the H1 status while entering the US, she has to apply for H1 visa. You will probably not get it in France and I am not sure if the H1 visa is issued only in the home country (India?) or if they allow US-neighboring countries.
