H1 to F1 Transfer with certain complications

Hi,
I came to United States on F1-Visa, got my Master's in Systems Engineering and then got a job with H1. I got laid off and I applied for a second master's with my previous university. My previous F1-visa was stamped and expires in 2010. When I got my H1, I didn't exit United States, and so didn't have the need to get it stamped for re-entry. I have been out of status since February (my date of lay off) and I am exiting the country in a few days. Do I need to re-apply for F1 consular processing (Visa interview and all) before I come back as a student for the same university in the Fall-?

In short, this is the sequence of events->>

1. Obtained F1 (valid till 2010). Then Graduated.

2. Obtained H1b (valid till 2011). Then got laid off.

3. Obtain F1 Again?? Or the F1 obtained in #1 should apply with a fresh I-20 from the same university?
