I was on F1 and got a job while on OPT and the employer sponsored my H1. H1 got approved couple of months back. I am planning to go to India in December for stamping. Any recent experiences in stamping at Mumbai Consulate . Your sharing of information will really help and is greatly appreciated.

my take....

I got my H1 stamp at Mumbai during February 2003. It was a breeze. Check www.visa-services.com. I was in the same situation....F1-OPT-H1 ( in my case 3rd H1). If you were not out of status any time during your stay and have all the documents, you don't have to worry.

Mumbai consulate was great. I got my H1B visa stamped from there in last week of Feb, 2003.
My F-1 visa stamp had expired in June 2001 and I had gotten H1B approval whilein the US. I was a drop-box candidate since I was within 2 years of the expiry of another valid visa stamp.
I had been living the US since 1996 (on F-1 till 2002 and then H1B)
I just had to submit

1. My passport
2. I-797 H1B approval notice
3. DS-156/157
4. Two drafts

Nothing else. Didn't want any job experience letter, offer letter, LCA, H1B petition, nothing.
I heard that Chennai, Calcutta want a load of documents!

Submitted it at the visa facilitation center in Mumbai (Bhulabhai desai road) at 10.00 am on a Monday and got it back at 6 pm from the same place on Tuesday.

Very cool experience!
