H1 stamping in Mumbai

Does anyone have any recent experiences of H1 stamping in Mumbai? I\'m a F1 --> H1 case.
I believe they have recently made the drop-box process mandatory, and they no longer accept walk-in interviews.

Should I wait a few months, or is it ok to get my H1 stamping done in Mumbai? Any ideas if they are strict/denying visas after 9/11 ? I\'ve never been out of status here. Any replies will be appreciated. Thanks.

H1B stamping in Mumbai

I was in Mumbai during Dec/Jan and got my H1 visa stamp for the extended petition (remaining 3 of 6 years). I went through the drop-box procedure at Visa Facilitation Service. The officials there asked for H1 approval (I797 Notice of Action, original) and I129 (certified copy) along with the Demand Draft and Form DS-156. I got the acknowledment (photocopy of PP 1st page) of the application and after 2 days got the passport with the visa stamp and forms I797 and I129 delivered to me through courier service. I think it pretty much goes the same way for F1-H1 cases.

Hope this helps.

Question

Hello,
Thanks for all your replies. I have a specific question. Do they ask for original degree certificates? Although I am F1 --> H1, I haven\'t defended my MS thesis yet, and hence don\'t have my MS degree, even though I completed the course-work. Do you think that should create a problem? Should I wait a few months, get my degree and then go for H1 stamping?
Thanks.

play safe

Play safe bros...

URGENT: H1 stamping at Mumbai consulate query

Hi,

What do u mean by certified copy of I129?
I got my h1 extension approval ie. I797 in original and all other supporting documents including the I129. Now that I129 does not look original but only a xerox copy with all the info. filled in.
But it is not original. would that be O.k to submit when i go for my visa stamping in Mumbai?

I asked my lawyer about this and he says that this is the i129 which i need to carry along with me. Infact my first h1 also was through the same company and even at that time my i129 was xerox copy and i got my visa stamped with it at Mumbai consulate with no probs.
I am confused when u say certified copy of I129. can u pls. tell me what it is and whether it is required? My lawyer says that this is the only copy of i129 which i have to carry with me.Plus he says that since this is my h1 renewal stamp with the same company, so the consulate just cares for the H1 approval and passport and do not even look at anything else.

I do not want to get stuck with my visa stamping when i go to India.
hence pls. let me know about this.

TIA

A.S.

I-129 ...

The I-129 petition is filed with the INS by your lawyer - so, there is no way for you to obtain the original application - the INS keeps it for its records. What my lawyer sent me is a xerox copy of the original application, with each page notarized by her, the stamp saying that this is an exact copy of the original application.

When I applied for my first H-1B, the copy was just a xerox (nonotorization), but this time I am going for a renewal stamp, and she sent a notarized copy, just to be safe.

However, I did call up the Drop-Box location in Delhi, and they did confirm that they "don\'t" require a certified copy - according to them, a plain xerox copy would do just fine. However, I would recommend calling up the location where you will be applying, and asking them about their specific requirements.

Hope that helps - Prashant.

No Title

well not really, unless you married and applying for Spouse H4/F2 , in which case they ask you marriage certificate original, basically none of the degrees/etc/etc are asked.

I have taken 3 visas from bombay (F1-1998) (H1-2000) (H1-2001Aug).
The 3rd was through the drop box.
All the certis etc are required by INS to grant you the approval. After that though I took the documents each time right from 10th grade onwards, they never asked for it.

Most importantly, DO NOT be intimidated by the drop box folks.
They are not US Consular staff; just a 3rd party service who are only facilitating the process and have ABSOLUTELY NO SAY in the final Decision making which solely lies with the VISA OFFICER.

And these people only ask for documents such as the ones stated above.

I have not yet heard of a drop box case being rejected or put on hold for want of a proper degree.

How long did it take to get I-797 (approval notice) after filling I-129 for you? I have been waiting for almost 1.5 months. SC is Nebraska.

thanks in advance

Prashant: Do they need Original Degrees?

Hi Prashant

When you spoke to TTS Delhi, did you check with them do they need original degree certificates? When are you going for stamping? can you share your experience (time taken, papers submitted) once you get the stamping. I am also going for H1b renewal stamping sometime in Mid Mar, and would appreciate if you can share your experience.

Thanks

Nitin

I-129 copy for visa stamping in India

Will I need to submit just the form I-129 copy ( first 4 pages) or do I have to submit all the pages. My job description, responsibilities etc are on separate sheets, on the company\'s letter head. Also do they expect you to submit any other correspondence with INS such as RFE response etc.

I would be grateful for inputs from anyone who has been through this
process.

Drop box requirements in Mumbai for visa stamping

Hi,

I am currently in the US. For visa stamping (first time) through drop-box in Mumbai, do I need to submit the entire form I-129 copy with all supplemental sheets or just the main form ( 1st 4 pages or so). To make myself clear, the job description, responsibilities do not fit into the form and usually these are attached on a separate sheet/s with the main form I-129.

Do the visa-services guys tell you exactly what to submit?

Also do they ask for letters from US employer, etc?

Your help will be appreciated.

TTS Delhi ...

I did ask them, and they told me to bring both original degree certificates, as well as their copies. They said that they verify that the copies are indeed authentic, and then return the originals.

But I did read in an earlier post that they took his originals too, and sent them back along with the Passport and the Visa. So, I guess you should take both of them with you, just to be safe.

As for my experience at TTS Delhi, I\'ll sure post my experience about ease of applying, as well as the time taken to receive my Passport back with the Visa.

Hope that helps - Prashant.
