Here is my story. I came to usa on B1 visa converted to h1b1 after 2 years. and finished 6years of h1 without leaving the country for stamping.
got 7th year extension beased on labor petition so decided to go to Bombay to get my h1 visa stamped after 8 years from b1 to h1. Was scared to go but during this period i had my canadian immigration visa issued on my pasport and had 1 year to enter in canada whis was ending in july2007
So i decided to g to India sold most of my house hold stuff cuse i was not sure my self if i would get my h1 or not. Any way since my mom was sick i decided to take a risk as i knew that atleast i could come back to canada.
I got apointment for the very 1st week when i landed in mumbai from us consulate.
I amd my wife were taken to the consulate in a bus. I had submitted my orignal document including my i797 and passport and was asked to wait.after waiting for about an hour we were finally at the window of the visa officer.
here is the conversation
Q1) why do you want to go to states.
Ans) I have come to visit my family after 7 years and want to go back to join my company to resume my work.
Q2) how many employees in your company
Ans) 105
Q3) how long do you wish to leave there
Ans) I have applied for GC if i get i want to be Perm Resident if i dont get then i would stay as long as my visa is valid.
q4) Do ou have any prrof to show you aplied for GC
Ans i showed him letter that i received from the Backlog center dated 2005
Q to my wife
Q) how long have you been there
8 years
Q) how many kids

Then the words we were waiting to hear
YOUR VISA IS ISSUED YOU MAY PICK UP FROM VFS CENTER OR WILL BE MAILED TO YOU.
SO WE RECIVED OUR H1 VISA
WE CAME BACK TO USA AND STILL HAD 30 DAYS TO LAND IN CANADA SO WE CAN LAND THERE.
I spent 3 weeks in NY resiumed my job and the I flew to Canada from jfk to Toronto on 22 of june to land as permanent resident.
everything went smoothly.
As soon as we came out of fligt from plne so the border security officer gave him the immigration form. He stamped it after looking at the visas and asked us to go to immigration officer.
The officer was very nice and welcoming. asked us very few q?
like how much funds are we carrying i said i have $6000 cash and 20000 in the bank he didnt bother to ask us any proof wether we really had that or not I had only 6k with me and the rest in my US banK account I had the statement from my us bank but he did not bother to ask or even check any thing. he just verified all the information from the form like our names and other stuff. we had address in canada where we had planned t stay so we provided the address to him. and we were told the the pr will be mailed to us in 2 to 3 weeks at that address.
then we went to customs she told us that we were lucky as there was no one except us there since it was 9am
our flight reached toronto at 9am she told me this was the best time for immigrant to come as there is no rush once international flights start to come then it gets really busy.
we gave her goods to follow list. we did not cary any thing with us as we were returning in weeks time.
she stamped the list and asked us to total it whch i did and we were out of the airport in like 20 minutes.
evderfthing was perfect.
I open a bank account and got my sin no the same day.
I call delta to change my flight as i decided to leave next day as i had nothing to do and had to resume my job.
so after 2 days we are back in NY
