H1 stamping delay

Hi all,

My H1 is approved and I have got my H1 papers from USCIS but I am not able to go to the US Consulate in Chennai and get my passport stamped, as there are no immediate appointments until June 2007. My H1 starts from 1-Oct-2006.
1) I would like to know if its ok I go to the interview in June 2007?
2) I am going to the UK and wanted to know if I can take the H1 Visa interview at the London US consulate during this period?
3) I believe that after a certain time period your H1 elapses. What I meant was that you should appear at the US consulate and get your passport stamped before a certain time period is over. For example, as my H1 starts from 1-Oct-2006 I should go to the US Consulate by 31-Mar-2006. If I go after this period then the US Consulate treats my H1 as null and void. Kindly let me know if this correct?
