hi
i am H1b visa holder residing in US from 3yrs - citizen of India .... i had sent mine and my wife's who is on H4 visa for extension with approval forms and other documentation for stamping at st louis within the timeframe. we have recevied all the documents intact but our visa wasnt stamped we recv a note from them stating "we are unable to process your visa application under section 221(g)of immigration and nationality act for following reason "your application is not clearly approvable at this time per regulation you require a personal interview with a consular officer .you must apply for a new visa overseas at US embassy or consulate that processes non immigrant visa applications "

we wanted to know does this mean we hadnt sent proper documentation or something was incomplete so it wasnt given and can we re apply ...sending all application and documenattion again.... or pls let us know if anyone else faced this same problem and what to do.....is there way to contact immigration authorities

regards
kris

It's interesting to hear couple from India got refused. I got the same 221 (g) last year, but I'm from M'sia which 60% is Muslim. Another possible reason was my original H1B stamp was from Canada instead of M'sia. Couple will normally get revalidation at St Louis easier than single.

Tried also

Hi all,

I had tried the same thing and got the same rejection reason. I am from Malaysia, chinese male. I am surprise too that Indians have the same problem.

Just want to update the progress of my H1B visa stamp applicaiton in US Embassy M'sia. I was very impressed with how fast it took for me to revalidate my stamp here. By using the online electronic form available in the website, I got approved next business day. The trip to the embassy for interview was a pleasant one the first day. However slightly unpleasant when picking up passport the next business day. I originally has a H1B visa stamp obtained from Toronto, but expired in Oct 2002. Got rejection letter from Dept of State when applying for revalidation in Aug 2002.

On the first day, the interviewer only asked me one question, i.e. how many yrs with my company. I have had heard other first-time applicant was asked at least 5 questions. Then, he gave me a green card to pick up the passport next business day between 2:30 to 3:30 pm.

The next day, I arrived at 3:15 pm, and found out the wrong expiration date in my visa. Actually, I got an 797A extension from Feb 2004 to March 2006. My lawyer asked me to put my current 797A which valid from Feb 2001 to Feb 2004 on top and the extension at the bottom. The staff said I should put the extension on top because they don't have time to review each of them. Actually I specifically mentioned to the interviewer that I got two petitions in there, and also in my cover letter of the application package. Then I waited there for them to issue me an updated one valid till March 06. However, they made a mistake again by giving me correct extension date but wrong LIN #. Then they finally made it correct the third time. I wasted two pages of my passport with 2 rejected visas. However, I am going to renew my passport anyway, so no big deal.

Again, I'm impressed with how fast they processed my visa. Make sure u do the online application form which will generate the bar code in DS156, and they really speed up the process, and no appointment needed since the interview is walk-in. Good luck to who wish to apply for the H1B visa soon!

Hi mesra, the interview took place on Dec 16 morning. I arrived at 8 am and left at 9 am. Majority of the time was queing time outside the embassy as well as waiting time in the embassy. Your IC and cell phone (if u have one) would be kept and given a number. Then, you would pick up another number at Window 6 inside waiting to be called for interview.

The interviewer only asked me one question, and then fingerprinted both index fingers electronically.

BTW, like u I'm a chinese male M'sian.
