H1 Fraud

I applied for H1 through an company in New Jersey in April 2009.I paid them $2000 by check.

Now it has been 6 months and they have not sent even the USCIS receipt number.
What action can I take legally against the company?

It is illegal to buy a US visa. It is legal to pay certain fees assosciated with the process. It is unclear the actual relationship to your potential employer. It is quite possible that he is a fraud with no jobs in the US.
