H1 extention

My first term of H1 visa is getting expired by end of September (3 years).

If I change a job now, does my new employer has to first transfer existing H1 and then soon followed by H1 extension?

I am wodering if that could cost them twice and in that case they might be reluctant to do so.

Say, if I find a job in another month or so, can they directly apply for H1 extension and not the transfer?

I am a bit confused with how it works, and what should I do about job change?

Please advise.

You new employer could ask for an extension at the time of submitting the H1 application.
