H1 extension for 54 days

My H1 expiration date is 54 days before the 6 year period expires. Is it possible to get a 54 day extension ?

6 years is initially calculated from the day you have first applied for h1, since you arrived 54 days after your application, you will get extension. You are also entited for extension for number of days you were out of US during this 6 years period.

My current H1 expires soon. Even though my company has filed for an extension, they haven\'t received the approval yet. Will I legally be able to continue to stay in US, even if the approval doesn\'t come before my H1 expires (on the ground that a petition has been filed for extension, before the visa expired). Thanks for your reply.
