I'm currently on my 2nd H1 - 1st one was for 2.5 years, and I applied for an extension 6 months ago and was granted another 3 years.
What would happen if I changed employer now? Would I be considered a new H1 applicant, or am I still on the same visa? Do I have to worry about the quota filling up?
Also, how risky is it to change employers? I ask this question because I have noticed the inconsistencies in my H1 approved periods (2.5 year for 1st try, 3 year for 2nd try). Since I still have 2.5 years left on my current H1, if I changed employer, would I still get 2.5 years left, or is there a risk that they might approve for less? If so, can I still go back to my old employer for the 2.5 years?
Lastly, how confidential can I keep this? Would I have to notify my current employer before I even start the transfer, or can I wait until I know the transfer is approved and then tell my current employer?
