Hello,
Has anyone ever been to Halifax, Canada for the H1-B visa stamping? Can anyone share their experience and give any tips for preparation (besides documentation needed)?

My interview is currently scheduled for May 4, 2006. Also, how early can you apply for a new stamp?

Do all officers ask why you are going to Canada v/s home country?

In the confirmation letter, there is mention of providing documents that prove that you have ties back to the home country - is this required for H1-B stamps as well?

Thanks for the help

Can you please say how it went?

Stamping in Halifax

Hello,
It was just as planned, no issues at all - just make sure you have all the papers and at that time (may 2006), they accepted fees in Cash only (USD)..so make sure you have that.
Go and check out the location before hand if possible..the consulate is in a small office in a big building..with many other offices...it might help that you know your way around.

Take your resume, the visa officer did take a few minutes to look at my resume. After the interview, the officer retained my original I-797.

The passport was given the next morning. Note, when they returned my passport, they had sealed the I-797 original notice in an envelope with a stamp that it can be opened by the immigration officer at the port of entry only..This envelope was stapled to my visa page, and surely enough, the immigration officer at the port of entry, opened it.
Hope this helps..
Halifax is an awesome place..try to do some sightseeing if possible...since you are going all the way!! Goodluck!
