My 3 yr H1 Visa expired in 2003 Feb, After that I filed H1B extension which was approved, but didn't go outside country to get stamping, after that changed Employer in January 2005, H1B transfer got approved.

I am planing to go India in May. I was trying to get interview spot(Chennai) thru website but was not able to find available spot before August. Please advice me!!!

You definitely need a visa to re-enter US. Either try going to Canada or Mexico but that route comes with its own fair share of risks. The other option is to postpone your trip to Aug, when you can appear for consulate interview.

Thanks for your quick response.

I was told that I need to have valid VISA to go MEXICO or Canada.

I went to TTSVISAS.COM. I found out that I am eligible for Delhi appoitment due to long wait in Chennai. I was able to find spot in June.

But at the sametime I heard someone who went to Kolkata two months back was sent back to Chennai for stamping.

Confused :(

You need to have a valid Mexican or Canadian visa to go to either of those countries. Then appear at the US consulate there and get the stamp to come back to US.

You can try other cities in India for stamping. Please check some other threads on those issues and read other's experiences.

Similar situation regarding H1 stamping...

Hello,

I am trying to apply for a h1 stamp in vancouver this May. I was wondering if it is safe to go to Canada and get the stamping done...my h1 history is as follows

*Currently on the 6th Year of H1.
*Got 2 H1 stamps in my passports for previous companies.
*First h1 visa was stamped in Vancouver.
*Second h1 visa was stamped in Mumbai.
*Last H1 stamp in passport (for Company A) expired a year back.
*Current h1 approval in hand from Company B.
*All relevant experience from US in addition to a MS from US.

Since Mumbai consulate is backed up till August, I need to make a decision whether it is safe to go to Vancover to get h1 stamped. In the event I do not get a stamping, I have to return to India where I will not be able to get an appointment for 3/4 months... Your inputs are appreciated.

Thanks!
