H1 B Transfer using W2- Very Urgent

I am currently employed with an American consulting company. I have been out of project for the last four weeks and hence have not received 4 pay stubs ( they pay me weekly). A desi consulting company has offerred to transfer my H1 using W2 instead of pay stubs as I do not have the latest pay stubs for the last two weeks. Is using a w2 a common practice for H1 transfer. My employer has not informed USCIS, but am I out of status. How long can one be out of project in order to be out of status.
Please let me know if it is ok for the new consulting company to apply with my w2, last two pay stubs of December and maybe a letter of absence for the month of January from my present emplyer.

I appreciate your response in this regard.

if you file in the next 5 days or so with the Dec pay stubs you will be okay. Don't bother with letter explaining Jan, that will definately cause you problems. If you wait much longer though the Dec paystubs instead of Jan pay stubs will start to raise suspicions.
