H1-B for University Position

I need some advice concerning my spouse. He is currently my dependent (I have a H1-B) after his practical training visa ran out. He has a Phd degree and has been called for interviews with universities.

My question is:
University session will commence probably August. If selected for the position, I am assuming he will require a H1-B prior to starting work. Given the limitation in the time-frame, it is like a catch 22 situation, whereby I doubt whether he will be able to obtain his H1-B in time, before August. Is there any way to get around this, or should he forget about interviewing for prospective jobs altogether? I appreciate anybody's insight on this matter

Your question is a little confusing - the H1B is filed by the petitioning employer - I'm not sure how you expect to have an approved H1 for your husband unless he first accepts an offer, for which I assume he will be interviewed.

As an FYI, H1s for positions in which the employer is a University are exempt from the annual 65K cap.

It would help if you clarify what exactly your quesion is...

I guess I did not explain myself well here. I am looking at the timeline and the possibilities of him being offered a tenure track position at the university (if he is at all successful). My husband is now my dependent on a H-4, after his practical training option ran out.
FYI- He will be attending interviews in the near future for tenure track assistant professor positions, sometime in April 2004. Looking at the timeline, if all goes well and in the event that he is successful and is notified of the position, it will be well into May. Between May and August - that does not leave a lot of time for processing and that the university's new session will commence in probably August. I have heard that H1-B's for university employments can be expediated, only I do not know the details and want to know more about it

I am exploring the options. Obviously there are a lot of monetary commitments for all that is in store/interviews and I do not want it to be a catch 22 situation, in the case that if he is offered a position, only to find that he cannot work due to the H1-B processing times/backlog - (given the short duration of time between the notice of intent and when he actually has to be on board at the university). Appreciate any feedback on this matter. So sorry that it is so long winding - do not know how to simplify it any further.
