Hi Gurus, Help

I have filed my I-485 in VSC - RD Oct 2001. ALready received my EAD - Valid till Nov 2002

My 7th year extention of H1-B is expiring in 2nd week of August.

Do I need to file for 8th year extention of H1-B??

Extension

I don't think it is required. Since you have the EAD you can work on that. Your stay "in-status" till such time as your I-485 case is
is abjudicated. Your H1B is immaterial now.
 
Work with your EAD

Thats true, you can work with your EAD and have it extended after Nov 2002 (if you don't get GC approval by that time), instead of extending H1B.
 
Apply for EAD renewal now

It is recommended that you apply for EAD renewal at least 90 days prior to it expiry date.
 
EAD vs H-1B

Chances of H-1 getting extended for the 8th year are slim, I'm told! The only advantage to H-1B is the ease with which you can travel, provided you have a valid visa stamp! With EAD, you have to get an AP every time you leave and return (people correct me if I'm wrong here).

Both, dollar wise and time wise, my take is EAD is better! It takes a shorter period of time to get an EAD and lot less money (approx. $100 for EAD versus $1100 for an H-1 extension)!
