H1-B extension question

Hi,
My current 3 year visa period is ending on 4/28/07. My employer has applied for the extension. The california service center says that they received the application on 1/31/2007. They are currently processing applications for 12/21/2006 date.
What happens if I dont get approval notice before 4/28/07? Can I stay and continue working with my current employer?

4/28/07 is also the visa expiring date on my passport.

You can work while the extension of stay is pending only until 240 days from the date your old H1 is expiring.

However after that you can continue to stay and not work.
 
More info needed on H1 extension

Hello,
Is there any place we can find this info you said (like USCIS link) saying we can work for 240 days once extension has been filed and waiting. My client has been asking me. Any reply greatly appreciated.
