H1-B -> EAD

My H1-B will expire soon, and my company lawyer suggested me to use EAD instead of renew H-1B, which is fine for me. But should I file anything or do anything to make the transition legal?
 
It is not a problem but why is he trying to save some money or what? Anyway he is just like any other employer.
