H1-B 7th Year extension/EAD

I extended my EAD for the third time and waiting for approval. I am just wondering is it advisable to extend the H1-B too (7th Year) or Use EAD.

I have to pay for extension($$$$), my employer won't pay.

Any complications by not extending H1B ?
