H1->ac21->ead?

I have filed I485 eight months ago but I am still using my H1 for work. I am not using my EAD for work even though I have an EAD card.

Do I need to use my EAD with my present employer first before using AC21 and use the EAD to work for the new employer,

or

Can I continue to work on H1 with my current employer, then file AC21 and use EAD to work with my new employer?

Basically, the question I am asking is - do I need to be on EAD 'before' I use AC21 or I can be on H1, then file AC21 and use EAD.

Either option is okay. However it is not mandatory to start using EAD before invoking AC21.
