H1 6 years question

Hi Gurus,
My H1 Visa was issed in OCT 1998 but I came to USA on 28 MAy 1999. I need to know uptil when I'll get the H1-b Visa extension. Last time my Visa expired was 12 Feb 2004 and when I applied for extension I got the extension for only uptil 12 dec 2004. I'm confused becase if we look at 6 year validity my expire date should be 27 may 2005. And also I went to India four time for 4,3,3,3 weeks of vacation. Could you please tell me until what time should I'll get the extension for my H1b

You should get extension for 6 yrs from your first arrival without a problem. If INS gave you less time, it could be because :
1. Your lawyer applied only for that period (based on job requirement)
2. You lawyer did not get an LCA for the entire period (upto May 2005).

Anyways, you could apply again for the remaining period. To claim vacation time, I guess, you'll have to apply again AFTER completing the whole 6 year term.
