H1 6 year and transfer to a new company

My H1 is almost 6 years and have to switch company. Since my company already filed LC more than 1 year ago, I can extend in one year increment. Does this H1 extend can apply to a different company other than the one that filed LC? Anyone has the same experience?

Looks like the Americans made a mistake by allowing to extend H1\'s beyond six years!
