When I finish my residency in June, I will have finished 5.5 yrs on H visa-i.e 2.5 yrs on H4 and 3 yrs on H1.Can I get another H1 for a year?Someody told me that you can only have a total H period of 6 yrs only.

H visa is for 6 yrs (H1+H4) total

you will get only 0.5 years.

Apply for a concurrent I-140/I-485 for future employment and work on EAD. talk to a good lawyer with your cv. I-140 in the EB1 and EB2 categories are current and will allow you to apply for I-485 concurrently.
