H! Extension when to apply

My H1b was approved for a year and valid till 30 June. I have to go back to India on May for 15 days. When should I apply for H1b extension? If I apply now w/o premium processing it won’t be approved by that time. Is it safe to come back and apply for H1b extension? I assume I can continue working even though my H1b extension petition is pending.

you should be contact an attorney now to ensure prompt filing on april 1. don't forget that last year, H's ran out for bachelor's degree holder on May 29 - after 2 months - a record!
