H-4 Visa Stamping in Canada

Friends,

I have got my Canadian PR visa stamped for me and my family members. I have my H1-B Visa valid till Jan 2006 stamped on my passport. My wife's and my daughter's H-4 extention approval has come but their H-4 visa has not been stamped in their passport. I want to land Canada with my all family members to do the Canadian PR formality and get the H-4 stamped for my wife and daughter and come back to US.

Whats is level of risk in terms of H-4 stamping. I have all current pay-stubs, I-797, LCA Petition copy, letter from my employer, marriage certificate etc. I have taken appointment at Americal Consulate, Ottawa. I am little afraid that if they don't stamp H-4 for my wife and daughter then they'll have to go back to India. My question is how big the level of risk is for their H-4 stamping. Has anyone had similar situation?

Thanks in advance!

Amindra,

I did a similar thing last year. I went for my daughter's H4 visa stamping at Ottawa. I was not a Canadian PR at that time. I went in as a tourist.

The process was pretty straight forward. I was asked to show the latest I-797, Letter from employer and last 6 months pay stubs and that was it.

They asked me to come and collect the passport the same day at 3:00 p.m.

But, remember it was only for my daughter. It would be safe to have all the documents in hand even though it is not asked for.

All the best.

Hi Jhumkasrc,

Yesterday only I came back from Canada and just to let you know that it was extremely smooth. I entered Canada through Sarina border and at the border they checked my Landing Paper, Passport, Lists of the goods to be followed and the address where I'll be staying in Canada. Thats it at the border.

At the American Consulate, they checked the Appointment letter my original I-797, my wife's and daughter's H-4 extention approval, mine and their passport and of course the application form. Thats pretty much and they didn't ask a single question. They confirmed that I can collect the passport on the same day at 3:00PM. It was very smooth and to me it looked like the Ottawa Consulate in bit easy-going so I would suggest go to Ottawa for US visa stamping.

Please let me know if you have any specific question.

Thanks Amindra

Thanks a lot, Amindra for sharing your experience. It seems that at least for the time being, the uncertainty surrounding visa stamping is gone.
