Hi All,

Not sure where to post because I don't find any forum that fits. Please feel free to move this to the appropriate forum.

I have just got my master and got a pretty decent job offer in a very stable industry. I would like to know the process of getting Green Card for an H1B holder. Does my employer have to do it for me? How long would it take? Would it be for the 2 yrs green card and then the 10 yrs after the 2 yr has expired?

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Yes your employer has to apply for you. But a normal procedure in this case is get H1B first and then apply for immigrant worker (first step of GC). Depending upon your citizenship, the whole process could take from 2 years to 7-8+ years.

Thanks kabkaba, my employer is processing H1B for me. They are non-profit org (higher education) so they are not restricted to cap and time constraint. I should get the H1B within 1 month.

What is the immigrant worker?

I am from VietNam. How long would it typically take for a vietnamese H1B holder to get GC from the first date of application?

Thanks

Immigrant worker means a worker who wants to permanently settle in the US.
You can read the FAQ on this site, it should answer all your questions.
