H-1B to B1/2 and back

Hi,

My visa is expiring shortly. My company is not willing to extend and I could not find someone to transfer. So I am thinking about changing the status to B1/B2. Later when I find a project and hence a company to transfer my H1, can I start working for them straight away as soon as the application is sent. Just like it happens for a regular H1 transfer. Or is it that because not I would be on B1 so I will have to wait for H1 approval before I can start working.

Once you change to B1/B2 status you cannot start working unless your new H1 is approved. You are no longer "transferring" your H1.
