I am an H-1B holder who wishes to start an Internet company. I have read the earlier threads on this forum about it not being kosher to work for your own company as an H-1B. However, I have arranged with a startup consulting company to be the transferee of my H-1B and to contract with my company for my services. A couple of legal opinions I have sought deem this arrangement legal. Price terms for this arrangement have been negotiated as an equity stake in my company.
I would like some opinions from this forum on this arrangement.
I am also shopping around for a startup consulting company that wishes to enter into this kind of arrangement with me for a lower price. I can only compensate you with an equity stake in my company; independent H-1B contractors who expect cash remuneration for transferring my H-1B visa status to themselves need not respond.
Highly reputable sources in the tech entrepreneurial field (featured in the New York Times recently) have commended my idea already; the legal entity that agrees to transfer my H-1B to themselves could stand to gain a lot in the future with an equity stake. If you are interested in such an arrangement, please reply to this post with your contact information and your bid for how much percentage equity you would like as payment for your services.
