H-1 Visa Appointment Without I-797 Number.

Hi ,

I would be getting my H-1 within a month. As i am in a research/academic setting H-1 cap should not be applicable to me. As of now i do not have a i-797 number. i intend to book an appointment at Chennai/ anywhere in Canada for August. Would it be possible to book an apointment without I-797 number.

I visited the website of US consulate and it clearly says you need a i-797 number before you book an appointment.

i read a post indicating something to this effect ... could some one elaborate.

For just taking an appointment for visa stamping in Canada you need to have valid passport number.
Approved I-797 and other docs are required at the time of interview.
