H-1 B Extension Time

Hi guys:
I have Applied for H1-B extension on Jan 23 2002. My Visa expires on April 15th 2002. How long does it take for the INS to issue an extension. What happens if my extn does not come thru by April 15th, I am planning to travel to India in May. will I have any problem.

Which service center did you apply your extension? Normally extnsion cases take 1-4 months. But few cases have taken much longer. Since you have filed in January, you should get approval by April 15, if not, you are still in status and can work. However, you need to have your extension and current H1B Stamp to travel outside the country.
