Gurus Pls Help: Withdrawal of 485 for Spouse

Strange situation:- Because of chronic medical illness of wife & lost job situation, my Friend (whose 485 just got approved recently) wants to withdraw her 485 (filed in July 02) for easier medical attention in India & proximity to relatives and move permanently back to India. He knows that her 485 process can continue while not in US, but from the view point of illness his priorities have changed.
Any inputs from the forum on the withdrawal process and time involved are highly appreciated.

Why withdraw her I-485 even if she is going back to India. Let it simmer and she can hold on to her GC even during her illness in India. You never know, maybe it will come to it that treatment in the US may be needed in the future.

The only valid reason why anyone should consider withdrawing their spouse's almost-approved I485 if they are going through a nasty divorce or something of that sort.

I agree with wherezgc, why withdrawl it? Also, is your friend going to abandon his GC also? If one leaves US for more than one year without apply for a re-entry permit, he will lose his GC.
