A friend of mine is out of status. His wife is applying for Citizenship.
She has to fill up spouse info on N-400.

Can she be denied for citizenship, if her spouse is out of status?

What do you suggest to put in spouse status?

Tell the truth

I would put the N-400 on hold for a while. Meanwhile try to get the out of status spouse reinstated in some status like F1 or H1.

After this apply for N-400 and the spouse with changed status too can benefit with things like work permit etc.

Providing misleading information on the N-400 application can at a later date prove risky and even citizenship can be stripped followed by deportation proceedings for both spouse. A BIG mess that you may want to avoid.

be honest & truthful on wife\'s N-400

IF the N-400 is filed at this time, she should be open and honest with the information. NOT wise to get caught in false statements to immigration officer at natz interview...

However, efforts to find/obtain lawful status for spouse should be worked on simultaneously and might take priority! depends on how long out of status, are deportation procedings in place, how long employed without authorization, previous lawful status (or lack thereof), previous criminal convictions...etc. If serious problems exist, see competent immigration attorney.
